While you are filling your planner full of plans for school lessons and activities, don’t forget to intentionally schedule down times too.  There will be days you and your children will just need to get out and enjoy the sun.  So, instead of bad weather days, try to include “Sun” days, “Fun” days. These days can lead to lots of fun and exploring. It gives your kids a chance to learn about some things outside that just may not be in a textbook. Slow Sundays

For years, most Sunday mornings have started the same.

Always the rush to get ready and out the door so we won't be late for church.

This would leave me stressed.

I wouldn't be in the best mood, and my heart would not be ready for worship.

Sunday mornings were like this for quite sometime.

Then, our world was hit by Covid-19. Just hearing that word is stressful. I understand it has changed people's lives forever. Our family has lost loved ones due to this virus and I know other families have as well, but I don't want to focus on the downside of this right now.

I want to be positive and look for the good God has done to work through this. I have seen him work in more than one way through the pandemic, but I want to share how it has changed our Sunday mornings.

The first Sunday was very unusual as we got everything ready for online church. Our family gathered around the table where we placed the computer and worshiped together.

As the Sundays passed by, my husband and I noticed how our Sunday mornings have become more relaxed. Not only that, we were spending some much needed quality time together before everyone else woke up.

We started using that time to either read a devotion together or read a chapter in a Bible based book to help our marriage grow.
I am not affiliated with anyone for this book, but I must give credit to the author Gary Thomas and to Focus on the Family. The title of this book is "Cherish" by Gary Thomas. I purchased this book through Focus on the Family. Photo by Heather

This has also given us time to discuss what we read and what it means to us without distractions. I will have to say I believe we have more understanding of one another's feelings now.

We have been able to talk to each other about what stresses us out. We have time to really pray for ourselves, our marriage, and family together.

This pandemic has caused us to slow down and refocus on what is important.

Now that we are able to attend church in person again, we are still making it a point to have time for our relationship on Sunday mornings. We do have to get up a little earlier, but it is worth it. We don't have a lot of time throughout the week to do this because of jobs and schedules. Although, we do try to squeeze in a little time here and there throughout the week.

I am now looking forward to Sunday mornings. We no longer just rush out the door. I see us taking every second in and making it count.

I really enjoy the moments of sipping coffee, that my sweet hubby has made, and the time we relax together. It helps me to have a heart ready for worship.

I am very thankful for this change in our routine. I am grateful God helps me to see the good he is doing in what really appears to be tragic in my human way of thinking.

I am so thankful he has brought me back to the heart of worship through these slow Sunday mornings spent with Him and my husband.

I would love to hear how this has impacted your Sunday mornings and how you see God working in your life right now.
